A-COAST
A difficult time led the world to turn its eyes on Europe who had to deal with an increased rate in immigration due to the civil wars in the Middle East, especially in Syria. As a result, a parternship between my school, STRATE College, and MSF (Médecins Sans Frontière) led to a group project of two months where the conditions of refugees were at stake. MSF asked the students to think about concepts that would help the refugees in their exodus to Europe.
After questioning some refugees about the perilous journey, they undertook to get to Paris it was clear its deadliest step was the crossing of the Mediterranean Sea. More questioning were made to MSF and the persons in charge of sea-rescue who explained that the fear, the haste, the cold of the water and the fact that most of the refugees didn't know how to swim could be the cause of deadly accidents when trying to move them from their makeshift craft to the rescuing ship.
A-COAST is an assembly of floating cubes like Cubisystem that would quickly be dispatched on the sea in order to offer a platform where a safer transfer could be made between the refugees cheap vessels and MSF ships. It would provide light in darkness and a reassuring ground under the feet of the rescued.
